Ever since her win on Rupaul’s Drag Race, it truly has been Monsoon season all over the world: two hit albums, theatre productions with Major Scales and countless UK tours. Then, this june, Jinkx Monsoon’s brand new one-woman show Jinkx Monsoon is CURSED has hit the UK coast full of life and love stories from the season five winner.
But this was set to be different, declaring that she has a naughty side we perhaps don’t get to see delved into a comedy filled evening.
Opening the show was everyone’s favourite drag prince Alfie Ordinary. A big UK talent and award winner with hit show ‘Help I think I might be fabulous’ wowed and warmed the crowd up with a Queen number and Joesph and his Technicolour dreamcoat complete with the most stunning sequin outfit we’ve ever seen.
Finishing up with a puppet masterpiece with Whitney Houston singing the greatest love of all, had the audience on their feet. He truly is a fantastic talent, who we hope to see more of soon!
Then, the time came for everyone’s Cool Mom to come onstage. Bedazzling the crowd in a floor length black sequin gown, mom was out to play and entertain. Telling of her Cursed love life with various tales to tell, some weren’t for the light hearted or prudes out there.
We had visuals to accompany the stories including a banana mashed into a condom… there was nothing off topic.
Between stories, cabaret style songs where sung including all that bass with a mix of Bebe Zahara Benet’s Kitty Girl verse from All Stars 3!
Whilst Jinkx insisted no advice would be taken away, she ended the show on saying how never look for your other half, as then you aren’t valuing yourself as a whole. She is a person of warmth, kindness, and a laugh to warm the coldest of souls.
Meeting her after was a pleasure as always, always great conversation and invested in what you have to say. So if you’ve been sleeping on Miss Monsoon then do take the time to watch her on drag race season 5, listen to her albums, and see her shows! It’s 100% worth it and we can’t wait to see her at this year’s Dragworld UK convention.
